Genetically modified food has been in the news a lot in the past couple of years.Also called GM food, these types of substances are hybrid’s that were modified at the molecular level before being consumed. Typically, it’s crops that were created by humans in a lab by using various biology techniques, scary!
Traditionally, new crops would be made through breeding, but that can be time consuming, and there’s no guarantee that the result will be what you want. So instead, biologists modify an existing crop to give them exactly the traits they want in a very efficient and fast manner through gene engineering. Okay, you should be getting nervous now. Are you catching this, these companies and scientists are playing God in a lab by trying to recreate food.
Here’s My Take On Genetically Modified Food
Of course, this type of genetic experiment has brought a lot of controversy, with people rallying to protest against genetically modified food, especially in the European Union, where a series of laws were passed in various countries. Basically, the majority of Europe has banned genetically modified food. And I would like to congratulate Boulder, CO where all the citizens rose up and collectively through legislature had genetically modified food banned in their community! All other cities and states need to follow suit!
There are no advantages to genetically modified food. These companies would lead you to believe with Monsanto being the largest culprit, that there are two main reasons for the creation of genetically modified food. First, to increase crop yields and second, to reduce herbicides, well neither has materialized. Is has been statistically proven that the crop yields have not increased and there has been no reduction in herbicides or pesticides, none!
An important point of note, Monsanto was the original creator of “agent orange” from the Vietnam war and the major chemical found in agent orange is now used in Monsanto’s other toxic killer, the popular Roundup! 80% of all genetically modified crops are sprayed with Roundup and 75% of all processed food now contains genetically modified food!
Of course, there’s other disadvantages, and reasons why people rally against genetically modified food. One such complaint is the unintended consequences against other species. For example, some types of butterflies are known to survive on very specific types of plants made by God, but cannot eat genetically modified ones, and may perish because of it. Another concern is the transmission of these new traits to other species, such as weed. If crops are bred to be resistant to pesticide, and they interbreed with some weed, then they too may become much harder to deal with.
The biggest concern however is the unknown effect gene therapy can have on human health. By introducing foreign genes into crops, that may create new allergens, which has already happened or other unknown results when people eat GMO’s.
Case in point, we already know that the herbicides in Roundup are lethal to frogs and toxic to human placental & embryonic cells. Genetically modified food is already linked to the following;
Allergenic
Toxic
Carcinogenic
Anti-nutrition
Cancer causing
Creates “Super-Viruses”
Because of these concerns, and how prevalent genetically modified food has become, governments around the world have been hard at work creating laws and regulations to control this type of research. Each country approaches this topic differently. In Europe for example, protesters have been very active, and many countries already have strict laws in place. In the US however, there’s various government organizations that oversee genetically modified food, but few regulations have been passed so far, what a shock! We are just backwards in this country, it’s all about the benjamins and curbing population.
How to Protect Yourself From Genetically Modified Food
First “read the labels”, every time, and stay away everything with the following in it;
Maltodextrin
Soy lecithin
High fructose corn syrup
Papayas from Hawaii
Milk with rbGH
Aspartame or Nutrasweet or any of those little chemical packages
Also, stay away soybeans, corn, corn flour, corn meal, dextrin, starch, soy sauce, margarine and tofu unless it is clearly marked as “USDA Organic”. If it’s not marked as USDA organic then there is an 80% chance it is genetically modified food.
The absolute best way to avoid genetically modified food is to eat organic fruits and vegetables and stay away from foods in a box, packaged or wrapped in plastic. This is the best health care plan you can have for you and your family!
Cheers to your health!

Hey Russ, Great info. thanks for keeping us informed.
Thanks Rob, it’s my pleasure. My goal is simply to help people by arming them with knowledge. Knowledge truly is power!
Great Russ. Would love to have you post a whole list of label ingredients that indicate that the product might be GMO.
Hi Ken, thanks for stopping by and leaving your comment. Yeah, the biggest offenders or ingredients I will in my video on the post itself but just know this as a general rule. If the food is processed, there is a 75% chance that GMO’s are contained in it. Go organic any chance you get to know for sure you are avoiding GMO’s!!
Thanks Russ!!!! I’m on the same page with you. I wish everyone could adopt the same mindset. Keep up the Great Work!!!!
Hey Lisa, thanks for your kinds words! It is my goal to help as many people as I possible can and give them knowledge so they can make wiser choices!
This is awesome information Russ! It is so important that we think about what we are putting in our bodies! It makes a huge difference in how we look, feel and most importantly, minimizes our risk for many diseases. Thank you so much for sharing this information and explaining it so well!
Hi Lisa, oh, it’s my pleasure! This is how I live my life everyday and collectively we need to educate people on what is really happening to our food supply. Actually, we really can’t even classify it as food anymore as it’s so processed and played with in labs…I guess it should have it’s own classification now, maybe “food substitute”?
Awesome post Russ!!! Thank you for sharing such great info.
Thanks Rachale! I appreciate your kind words, I’m glad you found it helpful!
