We have a quick-fix solution for everything! Instead of seeking mature, well thought out solutions to our problems, we just find the most convenient way of temporarily getting rid of the symptoms, needless to say, the cause of the problem will rear its head just when you think that you are safe. Let’s look at some of the latest brilliant quick-fix solutions that we’ve come up with…
Are you pre-disposed to breast cancer, why not surgically remove both breasts? I mean, prevention, sorry I meant a quick-fix, is better than cure right? Well, that’s according to our esteemed colleagues in the medical profession, who are now encouraging women, most of whom do not have breast cancer, to chop off their breasts to avoid getting breast cancer!
Better yet, already have cancer? Let’s chemo those cancer cells into oblivion, not! Did you know that chemo actually kills off the healthy cells in your body as well as allows the cancer to attack the body more viciously in other areas? Obviously changing your diet is not the answer, that’s according the experts anyway…
Here’s a priceless quick-fix, have a hyperactive child? Let’s drag him off to the psych ward and keep him in a medicated haze, after all, it’s not the child’s diet with all the toxic artificial ingredients that’s the problem, he needs his head examined!
Need a cure for influenza? Let’s get immunized, after all, the mercury derivatives are going to do great things to your body! Never mind all the evidence and calls for vaccines and immunizations to be banned…
Our country is in over its head in debt, I know, lets quick-fix it by printing more money! Let’s not focus on the long-term financial consequences and bankruptcy, if it gets us out of short-term troubles, or, maybe we can just get more bailout money!
A quick-fix solution represents an abandonment of responsibility whether it is in the way government is steering the country or in your personal capacity regarding your own lifestyle. Neglecting important issues concerning your health such as diet and exercise are your responsibility and should not be left to chance. While getting medical advice and attention is important for your well-being, that does not mean that you should not research your options.
Be aware of whether the choices made for you by your doctor are best for you and do not be bullied into complying with a quick-fix when you know better. This also applies to your life in general, if you know that the decision you are about to take is simply a temporary measure and does nothing to deal with the real problem, rather avoid it, as you will pay for that decision later on.
With a quick-fix solution for everything, most of us have lost sight of what it would mean to have a society that is more responsible in making important decisions that are mature and permanent solutions.
This is how a responsible society should approach its problems:
If we continue with a quick-fix culture of people taking shortcuts in their own lives and electing professional shortcut-takers to run the government, we will not produce a healthy, happy society, and in the end, it will only lead to cultural, economic and intellectual ruin. Turning the tide means engaging in long-term planning instead of finding a quick-fix for everything, if we don’t, America is finished!
