The connection between cherries and gout was originally reported by Dr Ludwig W Blau who cured himself by eating them for gout back in 1950. Gout is a form of arthritis caused by uric acid crystallizing in the joints, causing excruciating pain and swelling. The joint of the big toe is usually affected, but it can develop in any joint. Since then many gout suffers have had success with this remedy by eating 20 to 30 cherries as soon as they feel that first twinge. Gout affects about one in 100 people, with men two to three times more likely to be affected than women. Continue reading
There’s a common misconception that drinking beer is fattening and unhealthy but that’s not true. Shocking, isn’t it? Now consider this, Beer is fat-free, cholesterol-free and low in carbohydrates. A 341-mL bottle of beer with 5 percent alcohol has 5 g of carbohydrates, while a pear with the skin on has 26 g. I’m not saying you should trade your fruits and veggies in for a steady diet of suds, but enjoying beer in moderation can actually be a healthier beverage choice than wine. Beer is a beverage that people usually prefer to take along with meals in North America, Europe and Africa. Beer has greater protein and vitamin B content than wine. Its antioxidant content is equivalent to that of wine. Continue reading

If you take antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals, you are only getting it half-right. A new class of nutrients is just as important – maybe MORE important. In five or ten years, most people will be taking these nutrients right along with vitamins and minerals. Yet few are taking them now. These nutrients do not exist in most of the foods sold in health food stores, whether organic or not. Almost any cooking or processing destroys these highly complex molecules. What’s more, all the antioxidants and other supplements you take are half as effective – or worse – if you don’t get THIS nutrient either in your food or in supplement form. Continue reading
Kombucha is an ancient Chinese drink and its history dates back to over 2000 years and is referred to as the ‘Immortal Health Elixir’. It is a sweetened tea that’s been left to ferment; the bacteria and yeast allow it to reproduce which gives it the appearance of a mushroom. The therapeutic effects of the tea has been proven to fight and prevent cancer as well as arthritis and other diseases. Even though many have testified to this, the FDA still warn people off consuming the tea. Continue reading

The IDFA (International Dairy Foods Association) and NMPF (National Milk Producers Federation) request their proposed amendments to the milk standard of identity to allow optional characterizing flavoring ingredients used in milk (e.g., chocolate flavoring added to milk) to be sweetened with any safe and suitable sweetener — including non-nutritive sweeteners such as aspartame. Importantly, none of these additives needs to be listed on the label. They will simply be swept under the definition of “milk,” so that when a company lists “milk” on the label, it automatically includes aspartame or sucralose. Moreover, if you’re trying to avoid aspartame, you’ll have no way of doing so because it won’t be listed on the label. This isn’t only for milk, either: It’s also for yogurt, cream, sour cream, eggnog, whipping cream and a total of 17 products, all of which are listed in the petition at FDA.gov. This is all being done to “save the children,” we’re told, because the use of aspartame in milk products would reduce calories. Continue reading
